Loosen My Tie; a doc. about done

In 2003 I started a project. In 2009, 6 years later, the project is almost finished.

While working my way to graduation at VCU (Richmond, VA) a required class was “Intro to Documentary Filmmaking”. Each person had to perform a short interview and turn it into a short narrative. I chose what I knew, music and people, more specifically my friend, David Shultz, who was just starting to perform as a solo act after being in a few local Richmond bands.

After graduation had passed, his journey with music kept on progressing as did my passion for filmmaking and video production, so I decided to pick up where I left off years after the fact, in 2006 and turn it into a feature documentary, Loosen My Tie. The short version of the documentary placed 2nd in The Documentary Channel’s D.I.Y. Contest in 2007 and was an official selection for the Richmond Short Film Festival in 2007 as well.

Shultz had added a backing band, the Skyline, and was playing a lot of shows in the Richmond area and were even set to record a CD, so I kept filming waiting for a natural “cut off point”

I have been editing all the while in between but my last filming session with David Shultz & the Skyline was in Maine in September of 2008.

After that it took some times to cut all the sequences together but I’ pretty pleased with what I accomplished over the last 6 years.

I have been working on re-designing the website with a blog theme to make it a little more interactive with the short version of Loosen My Tie and more clips and even some trailers but in the meantime, check out the original site at loosenmytie.com
